It was announced on the 13th that LS Cable & System (Chairman& CEO: Christopher Koo) had successfully developed a fireproof cable capable of withstanding temperatures up to 950C, the highest temperature resistance ability of any cable in the world. Such cables are widely used for emergency power supply when fire breaks out in ships, offshore structures, and industrial facilities, and also for operation of key facilities and fire disaster prevention systems.
LS Cable & System succeeded in improving fire resistance to withstand temperatures 200C higher than the typical 750C (the upper limit of general fireproof cables) by adding glass fiber and improving the properties of the mica used in the fireproof tape. According to the company, the cable can not only withstand 950C for two hours, but also operates normally against external impacts and watering which typically occur during a firefighting situation. The cable satisfies IEC (International Engineering Consortium), BS (British Standard) and NF (Normes Francaises) standards, which are far stricter than domestic fireproof standards.
In addition, LS Cable & System successfully developed a fireproof cable for industrial structures and fireproof silicon insulated cable that is more flexible and easier to install that can be used in a wide variety of applications. (See Table below for details.)
With these developments, LS Cable & System anticipates increased sales by satisfying not only the fireproof requirements of domestic customers, but also the stricter requirements of overseas customers. LS Cable & System will target shipbuilding companies, offshore plants and construction companies for sales.
