LS Cable & System signs MOU with Kangwon National University to foster power cable specialists |

Seoul, Korea, June, 20th - On the 19th, senior managers of LS Cable & System (Chairman & CEO: Christopher Koo) were in Chuncheon to sign an MOU for fostering power cable specialists in partnership with Kangwon National University (President: Yeongjung Kwon). An LS Cable & System insider explained that the company had been preparing for this event with the goal to secure excellent, specially trained workers from the Gangwon-do region so as to strengthen its corporate competitiveness as well as to help develop the local community by implementing an academic–industrial cooperation system befitting its corporate standing.
Starting in August of this year researchers and engineers from LS Cable & System will provide lectures on the subjects of submarine and industrial special cables for students majoring in electrical, electronic and ICT engineering. The curriculum will consist of an introduction to cable related systems, design theories, manufacturing techniques and quality control. Most of the lecturers are master’s degree and doctorate degree holders who work in the R&D center of the company. However, some lecturers will be senior managers having abundant experiences in manufacturing who will hand over their precious practical expertise to the students in addition to theoretical knowledge. Students who attend the lectures will earn 2 credits and those earning superior grades will be given preference when applying for a position at LS Cable & System. In addition to a 7-week short-term internship program, which has already started in 2011, LS Cable & System is planning to employ excellent human resources by additionally opening a six-month long-term internship program this year.
“We prepared for this MOU in order to contribute to the local community by fulfilling our social responsibilities as a corporate citizen and fostering human resources,” said LS Cable & System Donghae Plant Director Inho Lee. “We will organize a number of other programs to continuously contribute to our local community in the future.”
LS Cable & System is implementing a wide range of programs from fostering of prepared human resources to recruitment for the sake of social contribution through educational donations such as this program. The company also plans to organize a specially designed “LS Cable & System Science Camp” by inviting elementary school students in Gumi (where the company’s Gumi Plant is located) to the company’s training center twice a year (summer and winter breaks) to learn about engineering related sciences. In addition, LS Cable & System lecturers will provide classes titled “Understanding Electricity and Electric Cables” once or twice a month to high schools in Gumi and metropolitan regions. LS Cable & system is also concluding MOUs with “meister schools,” such as Sudo Electric Technical High School, Gumi Electronic Technical High School, Kumoh Technical High School, and Gyeongbuk Machinery Technical High School.
